Ghost Terminology
Anomaly: Something that is different, abnormal, peculiar or not easily classified within a scientific aspect.
Apparition: Manifestation of a spirit visible to the eye.
Atmospheric Apparition: Not actually a ghost or spirit, but instead a “visual imprint” of people and events that was left behind in the environment that continues to replay.
Ectoplasm: It is said to be the energy of a spirit that is present in a medium’s body before any manifestation occurs. I
Electro-Magnetic Field (EMF) Detectors: Handheld scientific instruments that can pick up electronic and magnetic fields over different frequencies. They can read changes and distortions in the normal electro-magnetic fields.
EVP: The occurrence of Phantom voices on tape. Also called Electronic Voice Phenomenon.
Ghost: The soul of a dead person believed to be an inhabitant of the unseen world or to appear to the living in bodily likeness.
Haunting: A materialisation/appearance of an often unexplained happening, which is repeated often and over a long period of time. A haunting is usually connected to a certain place or residence.
Orb: Any of the concentric spheres in old astronomy surrounding the earth and carrying the celestial bodies in their revolutions. They are usually a white or yellow colour and can show up in pictures but are not seen by the naked eye. It is believed that this is the first sign of a spirit/ghost before a manifestation.
Plasma: Plasma is defined by bluish-white light caused by the ionisation of the surrounding area. The ionisation process releases photons from the bond of atoms causing a visible glow, and when these contact our retinas, the brain interprets the interaction as light (henceforth we have sight). Plasma may be created when an invisible electromagnetic force or high energy field moves invisibly through an air mass.
Poltergeist: A haunting that involves noisy ghosts and no visible manifestations. May involve moving objects.
Séance - A gathering of individuals for the purpose of communicating with the dead.
Table-tipping (Typology) is a type of communication with the spirit world by using a table. You start out with any size table and surround it with a number of people. Everyone places all five fingers lightly on the table. All together the group chants, “Table up, Table up.” Usually the table will start to quiver or lift to one side. If someone in the group has strong energy the table might rock back and forth or lift off the floor. At this point a question may be asked with a response from the table tapping once for “yes” and two for “no.” If there is a non-believer present the table will probably not move.
